Divisions in religion. Christianity.?

This used to confuse me a lot when I was younger, but now makes somewhat sense. Still, I don't understand how a religious body can have soooo many divisions. Catholics, Evangelicals, Baptists, Methodists, Presbyterian, Protestant, Catholic, Anglican, East/West Orthodox etc...I don't understand sometimes, why we are so separated under the same faith, that believes in the same God, yet we have different traditions that we do that separates us from how or who we worship.

I.E.

Catholics, I don't understand why you have so many rituals, Saints, Services, Prayers, Confirmation, Mary Madelene, Popes, Cardinals, Bishops. I mean, it's almost like a DMV line just to get closer to God that you have to do sooo much just to go to heaven.

Of course, just an example, not trying to bash you guys. Just trying to prove a point. Anyone can help me out on this?

I believe during the history of Christianity man has used miss interpretations of Scripture to reinforce a need to worship in a variety of different ways. The more this occurred the further away from God's true Word they traveled. Doesn't mean they don't have faith in God but could led them away from him, even with good intentions. Seems in many cases it is easy to play Follow The Leader and become lost. This entire issue is why I decided to attend a Non Denominational service. I have no need to try to identify with any particular group. I need a service entirely based on Scripture. The only thing important to me is what God has taught via Scripture and how he desires me to follow.

Catholicism is one of the oldest denominations of Christianity, so they have the most stuff, traditions, rituals, etc. More recent denominations tend to have much less, like say Baptists or Episcopalians.
