DivX player won't play subtitles from the DVD I put in my hard drive?

I inserted a Japanese movie into my computer hard drive, and it comes up on DivX player, but it won't show the subtitles! I tried everything I could but I'm honestly confused. Can someone help me out here?
I should also mention that the subtitles worked when I put in my PS3.
