DIVX problem - wont let me play stuff OR uninstall?

for awhile now ive been using divx and its been great, working perfectly, life was good. then yesterday it stopping playing sound, and said i was missing a directshow audio decoder. So i uninstalled and reinstalled divx, getting a new version at the same time, and it was working fine. Today ive tried to use it and it keeps saying that there is a missing plugin (i am on google chrome, but i also tried it on IE) and wont play. Ive tried uninstalling it but it refuses to uninstall, ive tried to reinstall it by clicking the get plugin bit, but it gets to a certain point in the download and stops
anyone got any ideas?

DivX hasn't worked for me for several months now, regardless of the browser. Mine won't uninstall either, really pissin me off...
