i was looking up some anime and found out one set of movies which i thought was never released outside japan was released only once in the US but as since sold out and no more of this series has been released

this got me wondering, i live in Australia and i already own a 1st Gen PS3 which i'm quite sure has region locking when it comes to BlueRay Movies (much like the PSP and how UMD Games are region free but UMD Movies aren't), i know some DVD players are region free and in recent years more DVD Players have been made to be this way.

i am wondering if BlueRay Players by default are region locked or not, if they are, are they like DVD Player in which some companies have models which are Region Free

Some Blu ray players are region free some aren't some can be hacked some can't its estimated that about 70% of studio releases on Blu ray disks themselves are region free, so it all, depends on what particular player your talking about and what particular disk....in the US most region free blu ray players are advertised and sold that way and you don't have to hack or modify them in any way....

In a word, yes. You can buy bluray players that can be "hacked" using the remote to play different regions so for instance to play region 1 you would enter a specific code, region 2 another code and so on. There are also DIY kits for certain players that can make them region free and i would imagine that you can buy a player with the kit already installed. Your best bet would be to google "region free blu ray player" and do a little research on the different options avaiable and what models would suit your needs. I've also read that it's possible to make a ps3 region free by installing linux to a drive partition and playing the blu ray through it.
