Do I have to wait 6 months for my license if over 18?

In Massachusetts. I may have misunderstood what my driving instructor was saying but it seemed like he said once I'm 18 I don't have to wait the full 6 months. I will be 18 in 4 months but I just got my permit. So I wanna know if I have to wait the extra two months or if I can go right after my birthday?
