Do police in UK arrest people for smoking in public and dropping ash and butts?

the most you get is an on the spot fine

..unless you punch the policeman in the face when officer issues you the fine, then its up to 2 years in prison i think

dropping butts is littering and smoking in public is now illegal. Not so long ago i saw two wardens stop and give a guy a ticket for dropping a butt. He got a £50 fine... so yes

No.. It's not an arrestable offence, but local council litter wardens cane fine you for littering if you drop a match or cigarette butt. Smoking IS allowed in public, but only outside, not in shops, theatres, offices etc.
