Do you consider Queensryche a pioneer of alt. metal?

I think Queensryche is incredible and there's no other band that has a style like theirs. I'm a huge hair metal fan (the ones that have balls) and I also really like alternative post rock/metal from the 90s and early 2000s. The cool thing about Queensryche is they've got that big 80's arena sound but also very eclectic and dark.

I think they're one of the pioneers of alt. metal. What do you guys think?
 
They're actually known for pioneering the pop-progressive metal sound, I believe. I love them as well - Geoff Tate has a great voice.
