...hypocrites? This is an honest question, I'm not trying to be a troll.

I eat meat and I hunt. Mostly for meat and other assorted parts. That's not to say I won't take the head and mount it.

Why is hunting bad? It helps control population growth, adds revenue for the state parks and continues our heritage. Why do people not like it besides the blind emotional crap some people have attached to this subject? Anything really tangible besides inflamed emotional appeals annd logical fallacies? And how many know how hunting is done?

I wonder how long this will be up? I have found that many people here report people with the opposing viewpoint

I do think that anyone who eats processed meat but is against hunting is a hypocrite. I don't understand why people eat meat if they are not able to kill the animal themselves. Before becoming a vegetarian 5 years ago, I used to eat meat because it was convienent, I would just pretend like what I was eating had never been alive in the first place, then I realized if I can't come to terms with an innocent being dying just to serve my palate, then I should not eat it! I haven't looked back since. As far as hunting, I'm from Michigan, we have a huge white-tail deer hunting following, and SO many people here kill for sport. I think its the thrill of something being alive one minute, and then having the power to take that life the next. I know this is not true of all hunters. Also, I think its a bit absurd that people "bait" deer. Why not just shoot your dog in your own backyard while he's eating his kibble?! It is unnatural and cruel.
My family has hunted for meat most of my life. They freeze it and eat it all year long. I must say, it saves them a lot of money and venison is much healthier than a lot of the antibiotic/hormone ridden crap that you buy at the store, but eating meat is not the choice for me. Though as a nutritionist and a self proclaimed "tree-hugger" I think it better to take and use an animal that has lived a normal life than to partake in the disgusting practice that is the modern day American farm.

Yes, I do. The way the animals were treated and killed that the processed meat came from is 10x worse than the way they were when hunted, whether for meat, sport or both.

I don't think hunting or eating meat is bad, but I'm not one to go out and hunt or eat meat simply because I don't find enjoyment in either of them.

I agree, it helps control population, continues our heritage... I think people get a little blinded by forgetting the fact that humans are a species of animals too, and just because we can survive off plants doesn't mean we should. Next time some vegan/vegetarian gives you a hard time for killing animals, give them a hard time about killing living, breathing plants, and just because they 'can't feel it' doesn't make it anymore OK than hunting! Heh.

I think hunting is bad when its cruel, for eg - leaving an animal to die slowly, tortue, etc, but dont see anything wrong with hunting.

In Australia they go game meat hunting (pigs and kangeroos) and the kangeroo is on our national emblem, this doesnt stop us from eating it, although a few people get shitty because they think its cruel to hunt them. =)

I dont think they are hypocrites if they still eat processed meats and they probably think an abbitior is more humane than game meat hunting.

Yes, I think they could be called hypocrites. My grandfather says that - citing the fact that deer are 'prettier' then cows, and that wild animals run free while farm animals are caged up. I don't understand his logic at all. i don't think hunting is any worse then raising animals to kill. Maybe it's better.

However there might be a better place to ask this question, because the opinions of people who don't eat any meat is going to be different from those that do. There is an other section in food, but it would be interesting to see the answers you'd get in someplace like philosophy.

In my experience, asking an urban person about hunting/farming is akin to askin a rural person about public transportation. You can read a whole lotta shit about it, but until you acually live it, you are an ignoramus.
