writers do? You know, twist historical facts, create fictitious characters, add mysteries and miracles, spice up materials, etc. in order to generate awe effect.

What do you think?

Most of the stories in the bible descended from the teachings of the Ancient Mystery Schools of Greece and Egypt. The Romans started the big church about 400 CE and twisted the interpretations all around, threw together the new testament. The bible if interpreted properly is a mystical collection of paganish metaphors of astrotheology and shamansim, an instruction manual to become your own God so you're not worshipping a tyrant like that "god" in the bible, an enlightened atheist lol. I guess that's why so many people that actually read and study their bible for awhile become atheists. .. they might not really get what the stories are about, but they know the Christian interpretation is a fantasy.

if the writers of the Bible were faking things then you would think they would have CLEANED up all their "heroes" rather than airing their dirty laundry for the world to wag their tongues at....

Ancient authors were usually held to a higher standard of credibility if they were reporting recent events. But authors who were writing about distant events were just like modern screen writers making historical epics. They were expected to included exciting events, themes, certain types of characters, etc. Dionysus of Halicarnassus, for example, wrote about the early history of the Roman Empire (in some cases thousands of years before his own time), and included direct quotes of intimate conversations.
