I notice that my DVDs have been getting scratched (very shallow) when playing them on my computer. I only have a DVD-RW drive. Is this different from a normal DVD player? Is it my fault?

Thanks.

it could be the laser burning the disc`s not scratching them the xbox 360 does it to after long time of playing the disc a laser burn looks like a clean circle right the way around i'd save up and buy a different brand new DVD burner<<<they live up to there name

Like any thing dust affects a loft of things, suggest you buy a cleaning disc, and clean your optical drive

Hi
This is an old problem with optical drives, it occurs as the drive wears as the materials used in them are sometimes not very wear resistant.
And things move in directions they should not. then its usually time to change the drive. I have had system disks files destroyed by optical drives whilst installing an operating system.
I now know that it would be best to take an image of the operating system to restore the system when it fails and have several copies as the optic drive does not have a long life.
