Does DirecTV work in bad weather?

So we are thinking of changing to DirecTV because Comcast keeps screwing us over, but I was wondering if the satellite cuts out in bad weather like rain and snow. I ask because my cousins have it, but I've been there when it was raining and I don't remember it now working (though it was awhile ago). Thanks in advance!
 
When the radar shows red storms overhead, those are thick enough to block directTV. Moderate rain does not.
