does panasonic TC-P42C need a blue ray dvd player?

We got this new tv from our dad but were trying to hook in our DVD player which is only a year old and nothing is happening. So I was wondering if this tv specifically needs a DVD player which plays Hi Definition.

It should work no problem. Make sure you are choosing the TV's input setting to match the input you connected the dvd player to. BTW, calling a blu-ray player a "blu-ray dvd player" makes about as much sense as calling a dvd player a "dvd cd player".

you have probably hooked the dvd right but pressing the wrong buttons on the remote control

got 8yr pioneer dvd player (which is NOT hi-def) hooked up to my panasonic 3d tv
