Pùca
(Phooka)
A rather deft shape-shifter, the pùca is treated with both respect and fear in Celtic Mythology. Though they enjoy confusing and terrifying humans, they are considered benevolent by the Higher Council of the Bartholomew Guild, also being known to give advice and lead humans away from danger.
No matter what form it takes, the pùca’s fur is almost always dark. When in the form of a horse, if a human is enticed onto the pùca’s back, it will take the rider on a wild ride, though doing the rider no real harm.
The word pùca is Old Gaelic for ‘ghost’. The Irish are very superstitious about the pùca, what with it most often being sighted near County Cork in Ireland.
November the 1st, in both the magical world and the human world, was proclaimed ‘Phooka Day’. During Pùca day, farmers are usually beginning to harvest their crops. They set aside a small share to honor the pùca and bring themselves good luck.
One of the most famous pùcas in the magical world is one called ‘Razendor’, who lives in the Himalayan Mountains and aids the clan of Snow Lions in guarding the small village of Rereovich.
It is a very silly animal.
