I have an 80 gb hard disk(internal) in my computer. However my torrent file downloads occupy more than 200gb. I bought a portable hard disk (500gb) recently. I am wondering whether portable hard disk can be connected permanently to the computer, so that i can download torrents directly to it.

Will it cause hard disk failure if connected permanently?

No. Also. They haven't made an 80GB hard drive in about 4 years. So your old hard drive is due for a failure.

This can be done. All torrent software has a place to specify where you want to save the torrent itself and where you want to save the data that is downloaded. Just check your options for these settings, or post back with the program your using, and I'll tell you what to change. The other guy mentioned you shouldn't expect it to work if you move it to another port. What he means by this is if you move/turn off your external hard drive, and it assigns it a different drive letter when you plug it back in, it won't work until you change the settings. It won't be a big deal if your planning on making it a permanent drive on the computer.

This can be done, but don't expect the torrent to work if the hard drive gets its plugged in a different slot, unpluged, or turned off.
