DVD is causing my disk drive to make a loud grinding noise?

So here is the deal. I tried to play a DVD on my Xbox 360 but when I did a loud grinding noise began to emit from the disk drive. In spite of this the DVD seemed to be playing normally on the screen. I put in a second disk to be sure that the Xbox itself was not the problem. The noise did not occur when I put in the second disk. I then tried the DVD on my DVD player and the exact same thing happened. Why is it doing this? What could be causing the noise?
