Famous people/One Direction question?

I always hear people talking about how famous people, like the boys of One Direction, would date a fan, but I don't get it, I mean their FAMOUS how can someone not be a fan? Or do they mean like the girls who cry when one of them looks at them? Seriously like are they going to date someone who hates their guts?
If anyone can answer that would be awesome.
