Whats a good sport, exercise, routine for a girl to have?

Im 17
5ft 2inches
UK Size 10

Im not overweight but just a bit out of shape, and would like to slip into clothes without worrying too much about my stomach bulging out, or my flabby arms (sorry but its the truth),
i want to also improve my flexibility
any detailed advice?
Im joining a gym what Equipment do you recommend the most?
Whats are good foods to eat, ones too avoid.
