Free torrents for a mac? Please help!!!?

ok so ive tried to download torrents twice and each time it says that i have to purchase a license...
my friend got torrents for free on windows and i know another guy who has torrents on his mac and i dont think he paid for a license...

i think my windows friend said something like U Torrent?? whats taht?
(also, whats the 411 on torrents...what are they anyway )

ok for mac, transmission is the perfered torrent program. but first you have to get the torrent. thepiratebay.org has some good mac torrents and thats where i get most of mine. then when u have the torrent you open it with transmission, just google transmission for mac and download it
