Hi, have a 1995 GMC Suburban turbo diesel automatic. Tried to put it into four wheel drive last night and can't seem to make it go in. When I had the car in 'park' then selected 4WL as soon as moved the auto selector to drive the transfer box moved the car out of 4WL and I can't seem to get 4WH to go in either?
Is there a certain way you have to select either 4WH or 4WL before it will go in to either gear? Someone suggested to put the car into neutral and the transfer box into neutral then switch engine off, select 4WL or 4WH, restart engine then it will be ok. Does that sound correct? Any help very gratefully received, thanks.
Thanks bsunvall. It's the model where the 4x4 gearlever is on the floor between the seats. Where are the links and mounts please and are they easy to check? Thanks and regards.

Neutral is easiest shouldn't matter, is this push button or is there a lever for the transfer case? If you have a lever and it slips out when put into drive check linkage(shift) and mounts including motor and tranny mount. If push button for 4 wheel selection is going to be the motor at the T case or the switches or possible module. In any case ensure all tires are same size and front and rear gear ratios are the same.
