Help for first car mid sized SUV?

I am 16 and looking for a first car. I had been looking at '88 Toyota 4runners for a bit and liked a lot of aspects of the truck but couldn't seem to find one for sale so i came here to ask for other options. Can anyone give me some suggestions. I need something reliable, long lasting, prefer 4wd, and fair in terms of gas mileage. I really don't like any model of car after '98 so withing the dates stated in the question are preferred aswell.

Jeep (probably Cherokee or Grand Cherokee would be more your taste), Nissan Pathfinder (essentially same as 4Runner), Chevy Blazer. My vote is Jeep- but i guess im biased since i LOVE mine and it is super reliable, plus when you need 4wd how could you go wrong with one? Try looking on autotrader.com, cars.com, carsoup.com, and possibly craigslist but beware of tons of scammers on CL. When you find one you like, i would highly recommend getting it inspected by a professional used car inspection company or a trusted mechanic so you dont end up with hidden issues.
 
The 4runner is a good choice if you intend to do some 4wheeling.
Try using Autotrader.com to select your area and particular vehicle you want or you can do a general search for all SUV's with 4x4.
