Home theater audio setup question?

You connect your home theater in a box directly to the tv using HDMI cable and not to the cable box. You also need to connect an optical cable from the back of the tv to your home theater to hear the tv sound. Keep in mind that only those tv program with the Dolby digital logo will have surround sound information, the rest are in stereo. You home theater will be in surround sound when you play a blu ray disc or dvd movies, CD and radio (if equipped will be in stereo only. Hope this will help you out.

I bought a RCA RTB1023 home theater with blu-ray/dvd.cd for my parents for xmas. It has 1 Hdmi output only and audio in jacks, My question is if I connect the unit by hdmi only to the cable box and the cable box is connected to the tv all by hdmi will i get surround sound from the tv/blu-ray/dvd and cds or do I need the audio jacks for the sound. I know hdmi carries sound but not sure about it if it has no hdmi input and not sure if its only for hidef stuff like blu-ray or hdtv. Thanks you very much for the help.
Wanted to add i have no digital out on this unit only analog. Will this unit decode stereo into a surround 'sounding' format not sure if it has Dolby ProLogic II and i think that is what is needed?
