Hey there. So I'm not a techie to say the least, but I just bought a home and want to invest in a good quality purchase to put in my living room.
Right now, I've got one of those "old" 50" tvs, and do plan to replace it with a flat screen tv (probably lcd) in the next few years.
I want to be able to watch movies, don't care if they're blu ray or not, and of course with HighDef being a thing of now, I'm thinking my current tv as well as any future ones will be an "HD" tv.
I want to be able to watch home dvds (ie, dvd +/-rw that I make myself, etc etc) and listed to music, whether it's bought or burned cds... I don't care about viewing pictures (jpg, etc) on my tv screen - I have a computer for that thank you.
My room is huge - if I have more than the subwoofer and two speakers that go next to/on top of the tv, I'd prefer to have wireless speakers to set behind me or else they'll literally have to hang from the ceiling. (Maybe one of those sound bar things will work better??)
What do I need to consider, or who do I need to see that can simply tell me what home system works for me and my needs?
Thanks!
Also, I want to not worry about up-convert this, hdmi input/output that, etc etc as I'm not a techie (lol, did I mention that already?) but if given the choice, yes, I'd prefer something that can connect to my laptop (can you watch hulu on your tv screen?) to stream pandora or whatever...and yes, I plan to get an IPOD one of these days so if it reads media devices like that, that's great too!
On average, what should I be looking to spend for the speakers, reciever, subwoofer...?
