...can be put on a digital media player? I need a free program if possible.

There are many free programs to do this but usually when done you only get the movie and no special features or anything although that isn't to hard to figure out how to do first thing first you will need dvddecryter next depending on your digital media player you need a conversion software you can google anything but for ipods a great software to use is Videora
