I don't know why I'm having such a hard time with this. I'm going over the quarterly sales taxes my accountant prepared. I'm trying to figure this out so I can learn how to do it myself. I cannot for the life of me figure out HOW to calculate the "gross sales and service without including the sales tax."
I deposited $8794.29 during one quarter. My accountant writes that before sales tax I grossed $8,094 and added 698.11 in sales tax. How did she come up with this. My sales tax amount is 8.625%. Please help!

Just divide the total receipts by 1+sales tax rate.

8794.29/1.08625 = 8096 (rounding error)
