How can I get a cell phone in Japan as a 19 Year Old?

I am studying abroad until August next year, but when I tried to make a contract at Softbank I was told I must be at least 20 or have a guardian with me. Since I have no guardian here, can I even buy a prepaid phone? Does anyone know what my options are?
 
You need an adult Japanese guaranteur. Ask your school/university if they can do it for you.
