How can I play Left 4 dead 2 split screen on PC with 2 PS2 style USB controllers?

I recently bought Left 4 dead 2 as I read that you can play it split screen multiplayer on the PC with 2 USB controllers. Just wondering how you do this exactly?
I have 2 PS2 style USB controllers that have all the buttons a PS2 controller has, and I have the full game of Left 4 dead 2.
