How can I view Divx files on Windows Media Player?

I hate the Divx player. It's slow, it saps memory and the sound is wonky. I haven't figured out how to convert Divx files to a format that can be played in WMP. When I try to open a Divx file in WMP, I get an error message. Any suggestions?
