How can people think of themselves as "good" Christians when they are afraid to...

...stand up for what is right? I am talking about people who take pride in their religion but are afraid to come forward in situations where they are a witness to something that was wrong and choose the NO Comment, I don't want to get involved answer or choose to out right lie because they want to protect a friend?
 
I think what you're talking about is basic human nature. Just because we're forgiven doesn't mean we're perfect. Yes, we should be better than that, but we are still works in progress.
 
I look at them as "weak" christians or "baby" christians. We are all weak at times, in need of strength from God. Then there are some that are nominal christians, who only wear the label, yet are hypocrites. But, in the end, it is Jesus who judges us and will know who truly belongs to Him. He judges our hearts, not our labels. God bless
 
Let's analyze thee question in closer detail here... "How can people think of themselves as good Christians when they are afraid to stand up for what is right?" Obviously, these same good Christian people are so terrified of this holy insanely jealous tyrant that most of them can even thing straight for starters.

Under the influence individuals are hopelessly handicapped unable to articulate large or small problems that may label them judgmental...I've met many Christians over the years who do nothing out of fear,,,Yes afraid that any action may displease this forever demanding impossible to please God character causing him to throw a spoiled brat type temper tantrum or worse...tripping you to make you stumble & commit that ultimate sin....
 
Easy, because staying quiet is what's required of them.
 
I have lied to protect a friend. I did it because I thought it was the good and right thing to do. Until that point I thought not telling the truth was always wrong.

However, I would never lie to cover up something that was causing harm to another.

i do not think of myself as a good Christian
either

I just need Jesus like everyone else
