How difficult are tenor quints to learn to play?

I've been considering learning how to play them. I already know how to read the music for them, and I have a percussion instructor and a friend who already plays quints ready to help. I;d just like to know how difficult they are to learn to play. From what I've seen so far, it seems to be all about speed.
