...upload on the internet? I got some home videos converted into DVD's in a digital shop. Now I'm able to play the entire thing on my system, or open the containing folder.

The video files seems to be made up 5 IFO files, and 2 BUP files. I want to edit the videos on windows movie maker or any other software, and cut small video clips that I can upload on the internet. How can I do this?

First... a quick education to tell you what all those files are and what they mean...

IFO - these are information files that tell the player which media file plays first, second, and so on along with chapter information and depending on the media, captions, etc.

BUP - these are BACKUP files of the IFO files. (If you scratch your DVD and the player cannot read the IFO, it attempts to locate and read the BUP file... somewhat like a fail-safe.)

VOB - these are the actual "movie" files, of Media Files.

If these are in fact "home" videos, they're not likely to be encrypted. As such, the process is rather straight-forward.

1. Google for "WinFF" which is a cost-free media converter. Download/install it and have it place an icon on your desktop.

2. The fastest method to do what you're asking is to create a copy of the DVD on your computer's hard drive. RIGHT click on the DVD drive in My Computer and select the menu option OPEN. You should now see two (or more) folders. COPY the VIDEO_TS folder you see to somewhere on your hard drive. (This will create a complete clone, including the IFO, BUP and VOB files you'll be working with.)

3. Open WinFF and in the FIRST drop-down, select MP4. In the second drop-down select HIGH QUALITY and if you want to specify WHERE to put the new video files (recommended) select a folder for the third slot.

4. Open the VIDEO_TS folder you copied to your computer and drag/drop ALL of the VOB files you find from your folder onto the WinFF large white box - it should now show a list of the files you've dropped there.

5. Click the CONVERT button and you're on your way.

NOW... you mention you want to upload them online somewhere. If referring to facebook down to youtube, convert the files into FLASH VIDEO format instead. These are MUCH smaller files and if you're hosting them, it's easy to program them into your site. Return to Step 3 before converting anything and in the first drop-down, select the first listing which is "------" (All) and in the second drop-down, select Flash Video (FLV for web use) and THEN hit CONVERT.

The more popular formats online are...
FLV, 3GP, AVI, WMV, and MPG (in order of size, not preference)

Hope this helps!
