How do I get rid of the black bars at the top and bottom of torrent downloads?

I have just recently acquired Nero 9 (never used any previous version) and am also learning about torrents and burning DVD's on the whole, but anyway I wish to watch the movies I burn to DVD without the black bars. I think I have to change the ratio to 1:1, but how exactly do I do this with Nero 9 before I burn a disk? TIA.

I met this dude a while back who was saying that there is a way to re-format torrents to look like movies pre-wide screens (4:3 or whatever). If this isn't built into Nero 9 (I thought it was supposed to be), does anyone know what this software is, that will re-format video in this way?
 
dood thats how the movie if formated
16:9 widescreen you want 3:4 er 4:3 ya 4:3
and its gonna funk up yer copy
it will squish the picture or overcrop it..unless you got a serious pro vid editing program
