how do i make a dvd-r with windows media player?

i burned a dvd-r and all the files where avi and i tried to play in two different dvds and my xbox 360 kinet and my playstation2 but it never played can you help?
 
You need a DVD authoring program that will convert these files to DVD-Video format.
