How do I upload a DVD and make clips from it?

Hello all:

I am hoping someone can please help me. I need to upload a DVD to my hard drive and make 3-4min clips from it. I want to use them in e-mail and on YouTube. Can anyone please point me in the right direction? What software? I am using a Windows 7 PC.
