How do I use the ALT key in Sims 3 when I'm on a mac?

I'm using my MacPro, and I'm trying to use the "disableSnappingToSlotsOnAlt on" cheat, but it's not working. How do I make it work?
The button says "alt Option". MY question is, why isn't it working if it says alt?
