how do they make the pokemon cries in the handheld pokemon games?

ive been wondering 4 ages how they do this-i think theyre great!do they use human voiceovers?if not,how?
 
i think they use a computer to make the voices and to manipulate the pitch. there are a lot of Pokemon and it would take forever to use a real person for them all and if you listen closely a large number of them kinda sound the same with a different volume. if they did use a real voice there would be no need to make them sound the way they do especially when you look at the way they do the anime with real human voices.
