how do you know which DVD players play DIVX files? Foreign DVD's?

I'm picking up DVD player for a friend and want it to play DIVX files. My personal dvd player has no issues playing DIVX movies or dvds from east asia and such. However, I don't think any DVD player box has the info saying if they play DIVX or not. What should I look for when I browse dvd players?
 
It should say MP4/Divx on it in the row of format logos.

As for foreign DVDs, you cannot get players made for other than your region on most places, but some players can have their region changed.
