Jessica looked away from Gfar briefly to see Harry going off with a stranger in a white cloak.
“Harry?” she called, but to no response. She began to follow him before Gfar placed a hand on her shoulder, stopping her.
“Don’t bother, child,” Gfar said, a smile on his lips.
“Who’s that?”
“Fasd.”
“Well where’s he taking Harry?” Jessica demanded.
“For a tour around the castle, I assume.”
“But he’s coming with us.”
“Not anymore,” Gfar said simply.
Jessica stared after Harry as Fasd led him through a marble door. It closed behind them silently.
“Why’s he going with him? He could have at least asked.”
“He didn’t have a choice.”
“What do you mean? What’s that Fasd doing to him?” Jessica asked, worried.
“Nothing,” Gfar chuckled.
“Then why does he have no choice?” she asked, growing impatient with Gfar.
“Because Fasd is his soul mate,” he replied, smiling.
“His what?” Jessica almost screamed.
“You obviously don’t know our customs, do you?” Gfar asked.
“It would appear not.”
“Well with our people, it’s love at first sight. Literally,” he added, laughing. “And when we fall in love with someone, we never fall in love with another person. We’re very loyal to our soul mates.”
“But what if they don’t love you back?”
“Why wouldn’t they? We’re they’re soul mate, the other half to them. Harry will not be able to resist Fasd. Although we’ve never had one of our kind fall for someone of their own gender before, but then Fasd has always been different.”
“In what ways?” Jessica asked, no longer shocked but curious.
“Well, look at him. His hair, his eyes. He is almost the complete opposite of a Dweye. But I don’t disapprove of this match. Who am I to stand in the way of true love?” he asked seriously.
“No one,” Jessica replied without realising.
“Exactly!” Gfar said, back to his eccentric self. “Now, shall we continue the tour?”
