Back in the day, I kept a Frazetta poster taped to the wall of my dorm room.
When I left school, I actually met one of the ladies who had posed for Boris Vallejo.
I realize that there are a number of other artists in this field.
Who is your favorite? And whom might you recommend?

Still Jeff Jones (now Catherine Jeffrey Jones since his/her sex change). No I can't say he was better than Frazetta -- better educated yes in terms of a degree but both of them explored the conventions of the genres of Sword and Sorcery and SF with a depth and exactitude that even excellent artists like Vallejo or James Warhola haven't. For me Sword and Sorcery was something from the late sixties. It would be mainly Frazetta, Krenkel and Jones with occasional pieces by people like Gray Morrow. Rowena became a very popular cover artist as the stories became too sophisticated to be considered modern versions of the old sword and sandal movies (which was how the genre got its name). I never liked her anyhow and only sometimes liked Vallejo. Krenkel was better at pen and ink than at painting. Frazetta and Jones were masters, and I was always a little more partial to Jones's ethereal figures.
