So I found this VW Golf in my area. I've never owned a VW before and I really wanna pick this one up, but the mileage really throws me off. 156,xxx miles on a 2003. I test drove it, everything handled great and the guy told me its been really well maintained. I kinda wanted to get someone's opinion that knows something about the brand and possibly if it is a good idea or not. I'll put the link below so you can check out the details and what not.

Honestly, I really wouldn't. I had an Audi (same company as VW) and as the mileage started to get higher, it was less and less reliable and repairs were EXPENSIVE. I know Audi is a "premium brand" but I have also heard that VW isn't too cheap either, unless you were to maybe try an indie repair shop. I couldn't even imagine my A4 at 156,000 miles. The Golf looks nice for what it is. But my recommendation would be: no.

It depends on how much it is going for. The most I would be pay for would be not more than $4000. If well maintained, I believe you can squeeze at least another 150k miles out of it.
Besides engine and transmission repairs, I personally don't worry much about other mechanical issues because I repair my car myself.
My advice, if you like it, if it doesn't have any major issues and you have some few dollars for a few maintenance, get it.

Do not buy this car.

$6000 for a car with 156,000 miles is insanity at it worst !! And I'm not getting into the problems you run into with a turbocharger cause I'd be here typing for a couple of hours.
