I'm Japanese, who study English. And, I don't know how to greet teachers or adults(higher ranking people) in English. I mean, is this okay to say hi or hello to them? I'm concerned that these expressions are too casual in this situation. what's the formal expressions of greeting?

You should always call them by Mr. or Ms. __________. If you are meeting them for the first time, offer your hand to shake (always the right hand).

Have you met these people before?
If not: shake their hands and introduce yourself. You could say nice to meet you, or that could wait until the end.

If you have met them before, shake their hand if they offer it. Saying hello is normally fine.

Greeting them by saying hello should be perfectly fine. I do that and ask them how their day is going and it seems to be fine.
