GOLDEN RULE: IF YOU FIND IT TURN IT OFF IMMEDIATELY AS SOON AS YOU FIND IT !!!

Here is the solution to my question but I am still not 200% sure if this is actually 200% accurate and safe so please feel free to comment or post responses if you know more information or if I wrote something wrong - thank you.

1) Turn off iPhone + remove SIM card + disable WIFI - now your phone can't send/receive data which means you can't be tracked down via GPS or whatever other clever methods invented.

Note: you must turn off the iPhone or iPod touch IMMEDIATELY. If you turn it off when you're in your house -.-! you're screwed. The tracking software will have your house home address logged and you'll have the owner with or without the police knocking at your door soon... Turn it off as soon as you find it -.-, makes sense right?

So now you can't be tracked down with GPS or receive any SMS or texts or whatever that would be used to track you down, and mobile me, or whatever software you installed won't be effective since it can't connect to a network to send/receive data !!!

You don't really think GPS would work without a phone network (e.g. AT&T) or WIFI, right?? Of course not :). So rest assured.

2) Download latest firmware for your device from apple/iTunes or download a custom firmware for your device if you know or know someone that knows how to jailbreak your device.

3) Disconnect your computer from internet access and connect your device (just in case the tracking software on your phone somehow logs the information of the computer and address and all that information and somehow sends it to the owner via internet - so unplug/disable internet in your computer.

3) Connect device to a computer with no internet to do a NORMAL RESTORE or a CUSTOM RESTORE to erase the tracking software that was installed: if you do a normal restore you can only use your iPhone with whatever company it was bought with so either AT&T and very soon VERIZON. If you're lucky and your firmware is like 4.0 you could still do a custom jailbreak restore (I think it's 4.0 or you could 'probably' downgrade - you gotta search on google on how to jailbreak if you want to do it).

Note: I recommend doing a custom jailbreak restore because there are A LOT of really awesome features for jailbroken iphones and tons of free apps. Just search on youtube and you will learn what you're missing! It you get tired of a all the awesome free features that come with a jailbroken phone and free stuff), you can always just do a normal restore to get back to the old, normal, limited phone with limited features...) - being sarcastic here :).

3) After restore, before inserting a new SIM card or enabling WIFI and logging into your home/school/starbucks network, check if MobileMe kept is attempting to track down the device. My advice is, turn off mobileme, disale it,or delete it! But don't let leave it ON! There are other tracking software you can get for free or buy too, and besides if the person has MobileMe subscription with Apple, hummm, Apple could notify the owner if you renew the subscription after the iPhone was reported stolen... just get rid off MobileMe for your own sake, comprende?

Note: A friend of mine found an Iphone 4G 16GB two days ago and he immediately turned it off. I will *attempt* to do all this because he knows for sure the phone has a tracking software, but he wants to keep it. He hasn't been caught yet so yep turning it off works :).

---- iPhone/iPad/Ipod Touch tracking software such as MobileMe or other popular ones can be outsmarted if you do the above. But of course, do some more research on your own, or ask techy friends to make sure it will all go smoothly and you won't get caught.
