How to play Divx files on the PS3?

Hi there! it's nice to be back on the PSN. a few weeks before the "troubles" began i got myself a brand-new PS3 Slim and i stuck to my console 'coz i know Sony is all about games and quality.

But, i wanted to ask about Divx files. i have a portable hard drive with Divx files (mainly AVI & MKV files) now, i know the PS3 is compatible with Divx but i wanted to know how do i make those files work? do i need to "register" my PS3 with the Divx.com webiste? the last time i inserted my PHH the PS3 didn't even recognised it despite it being formatted to the Fat32 format.

Please help!!!

When i see the Triangle symbol and click Display All it doesn't display anything. but when i go to the Music part of the XMB it could display all my music files maybe because i created a partition called " Music". shall i do the same and make a folder called "Video" so i the PS3 can "see" it? and do i still need to register my PS3 with Divx.com?
 
You have to register with divx and download a test video [on pc]. put it on a usb then plug it into your playstation and play it. then you can play divx movies.
If you can't find the divx movie press triangle then go to display all [in the video part of the xmb (obviously)] and browse your usb for the movie
 
MKV files can be a problem but its rare so i doubt thats the problem
Im assuming your ps3 acknowledges you have a hardrive connected
So on your ps3 go to the video headings press Triangle on the hard drive symbol under the video heading and choose "display all"
Or alternatively you can make a folder on the hard-drive called "video"
(not case sensitive but make sure its spelt correctly)
Drag all the divx files into the video folder
when you see the hard drive symbol under the video heading on your ps3 hit x and everything in that folder will be displayed
 
divx is coppyed films thats why ps3 havent got bak to you if its a usb stick click triangle (display all)on the usb and it will show you
