how to replace mountain bike tires with faster ones?

I bought a mountain bike and I have a hard time pedaling long distances. It's heavier and thicker wheels that I am not used to.

I have seen hybrid bikes, which pretty similiar to mine except with better tires to go faster.

Would it be a good idea to replace them and how?

Two words... Kenda Kross. These are the best tires to turn that mountain bike into a more "commuter friendly" and faster bicycle on the streets. Links below. Find 'em at your local bicycle shop or many places on-line sell them.

How to replace a tire? 3rd link will apply to changing a tire too - although it states 'How to Fix a Flat Tire on Your Bike'.
