i have a hp pavilion dv6 notebook running windows 7 64 bit. the dvd/cd drive is recognised and shows up in the explorer but whenever i put a disc in the it spins and makes noise and then does not do anything.
i have tried both cd's and DVDs.
i have restored the system to before the problem started happening.
Deleted the upperfillters from
Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\ {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318} it has come back after a reboot with the same problem.
please help i would like to avoid replacing my dvd drive if possible.

Try this
Use a lens cleaner disk (available in the local market) to clean the lens of your drive. the reason may be some dust accumulated in the lens.

If this not working out, then there can be chances that the lens having complaint (since the drive shows on windows), in that case you have to buy a new one replace the old one of your laptop.

If you don't want to mess-up with the laptop by replacing anything, you can use a USB DVD disk drive which will be available on your local market.
