I am a Christian, but I like death metal?

I listen to heavy (death) metal bands. On the top of the list is Five Finger Death Punch. I have most of their songs. I get the clean versions, but I feel like there's just something wrong with that. I am a christian, and something just makes me feel bad when I listen to it, though I like the songs. Also, I am heavy into the medieval culture, and so songs like Death Before Dishonor (by FFDP) strike home to me. Is this bad? Help please!

Even the singer for Slayer is religious, last time I checked.

There is such a thing as separating fantasy from reality.
I watch a movie about Spider-Man and fantasize about being him. But I wouldn’t want to ACTUALLY be him, because that would be too stressful. So I enjoy just the fantasy.

You could do a similar thing when it comes to your enjoyment of that type of music. Realize that it’s just music (just fantasy), enjoy it, and don’t let it effect your other decisions in life.

Basically, I think your religious background is laying a guilt trip on you (so to speak) where none is deserved on your part.

Satans tugging at your soul boy

Nah, just kidding
It's perfectly OK to rock out, just not to christian metal. Blech.

You won’t be condemned to hell because of what music you listen to. I think explicit music has an effect on how your going to act, but maybe its not the case with you.

I listen to Christian music, but there are many different genres with that too. (Christian Rock, Rap, Pop, Gospel, etc......)

If you like rock here a few Christian bands I think you’d like: Skillet, Thousand Foot Krutch, The Devil Wears Prada, Disciple...

If the music causes you to sin then stop listening to it. If listening causes your brother or ssister [in Christ] to sin, you should not listen to it. My example of this is would you drink in front of a recovering alcoholic? Kind of a stretch but you get my drift.

Honestly, music is music is music. meaning that you only get what you think you get out of it.

LOL he thinks Five Finger Death Punch is death metal. He probably also thinks that Slipknot and Linkin Park are death metal too.

Its not bad....but you are feeding your sin nature...you flesh and making it strong.

Your Christian nature is whimpering in the corner a 98 pound weakling with the bully of the flesh hovering over him

what you feed will be strong, so feed the Spirit, your Christian nature (with bible readings, christians songs et al), more than you feed your sin nature

There are plenty of things in this world that are not inherently bad, that many Christians see as bad.

Some think drinking is bad, when really it is only becomming drunk that is bad. Some think dancing is bad, when really it is only lust and adultry that are bad. Some think heavy metal is bad, when really it is only some of the lyrics and things associated with that type of music that are bad. In fact, I'm pretty sure there are Christian heavy metal groups. I'm not sure what they are because I don't listen to that type of music - but simply because that is not a style I enjoy; not becasue I find it inherently wrong.

However, there is a verse in the Bible that says that if you know the good you should do and don't do it, then you are sinning. That makes me wonder if, because you feel it is better to not listen to such music, perhaps that is the better choice. But I'm not completely sure about that - that is a question for someone who has studdied this area of the Bible a bit more than I have.

Death metal is annoying to me. But no, I don't think there's anything wrong with listening to death metal if you're a Christian.

No, that is your personal choice; I doubt God will punish you for listening to music, as long as it has no blasphemy in the lyrics, and it does not suggest that sin is good.

I like some metal bands, and I will admit to listening to Avenged Sevenfold occasionally.

Yes it is bad. Some musicians make pacts with the devil for fame....and consecrate their music to him. Therefore every time you listen to those songs and repeat them over and over....you are further indoctrinating your mind to accept what he wants you to believe.

It's just music. It is not a sin. Your music isn't forcing you to go out and do bad things right? You just like the way it sounds. I love all kinds of music as well I don't worry about what I listen to unless it personally disturbs me.

There's nothing wrong with death metal. And nothing with Christianity conflicts with listening to death metal. You like whatever kind of music you like. Lose the guilt feelings over jamming if you can...'cos it isn't warranted.

Christianity as far as I know (and I've been a Christian) says nothing about what you can and can't listen to. Plus death metal has no satanic ideology if that's what you're worried about.

So listen away my friend.
