I am seriously considering taking a 6 day, 5 night vacation to Mumbai, India...

...by myself. Would this? be a good vacation?
I love losing myself in far away, exotic places, trying different foods, seeing fascinating sites and experiencing a different environment. I also like exploring the nooks and crannies of a city (shops, restaurants, museums, curiosities, etc)
Would this be the best place in India for such things? What else can I do in and around Mumbai?
Also, I am American (from Brooklyn, New York) 41 years-old. Would there be other Americans in Mumbai I could hook up with and hang out with, or will I experience loneliness and isolation on such a trip?
FYI- no one is able to come with me on this trip b/c they can't get time off from work on these exact dates (January 23- January 29, 2011).
 
You say that you love losing yourself in faraway exotic places, etc but worry about being lonely in Mumbai on a 6-day trip? Hmm. Is this your first trip? Being lonely is about the last thing any seasoned traveler thinks about. There are always people to meet on any trip. A seasoned traveler knows that--I was recently in Cambodia and met plenty of Americans at restaurants, sights, everywhere. I know several women who regularly travel alone and love it.
