I find the demands for proofs of God interesting. Is it possible that only...

...some would have proof by encounter? That is, assume for a moment that there are many Christians who would say, "I know that God exists because I have had an encounter with God." (Indeed, I've met many USA Christians who say they know God from their daily experience.)

Now certainly it is possible that some people might have personal experiences involving an entity (such as a god) while others do not. Therefore, while such a PROOF might not be sufficient proof for EVERYONE, surely such a basis could be a sufficient proof for THEM. After all, why should an individual who claims to KNOW GOD be expected to deny their "personally revealed truth" just because -- assume for the moment -- that God has not initiated such a personal encounter with EVERYONE?

After all, isn't this CARL SAGAN'S POINT IN HIS SCREEN PLAY for the movie CONTACT?

JEFF SPECOLI: Good for you...but I was specifically replying to the many posts on this forum which demand PROOFS, not evidence.

Sorry you felt left out. Perhaps next time.

It looks, if god exists, he is a sad bastard.
Imagine the pain and suffering he is causing by not showing himself ?
By not helping people as a supreme being could do ?

Sad bastard ! Or imaginary creature.
More likely.

Yeah, the trouble is, delusions seem very real to everyone who has them. It's whether there is some sort of outside evidence that what's being reported is true that helps determine if you're talking about a genuine experience or a delusion, and is a very good part of why atheists demand independent proof.

That theists can't provide it is, objectively, very telling.

The proof is there for everyone to plainly see. you can even look this stuff up on the internet. You dont have faith because you dont want to believe. If athiests understood true faith they wouldnt even bother trying to get on here cause we cant turn away from what we know and have seen and witnessed. the miraculous wonders that are so unbelieveable i cannot put into words. You are truly missing the expierience. But someday i assure you when death nears, You will take that small but all needed leap of faith and it will grow. Cause you too will see for your self what you denied for so many years. and say, If i new then what i know now.....God bless ya friend.

Their experiances can be explained through chemical reactions in the brain.

I have had mild hallucinations as a side effect from my anti-anxiety medication, does that mean I can communicate with "God"?

No, my concious is smarter than that, I realise its just delusion, and I can just sit through it and deal with it..

My grandfather knew Jack Dempsey. You have to take their word for it, or believe that Jack Dempsey never existed.

Believe in something strong enough and keep telling yourself it's true, then it will be true in your own mind only. Should we now believe those who say they were abducted by aliens that there are definitely aliens? No one has met god anywhere but in their fantasies, believing you have is still not proof.
