i have a 99 gmc yukon, we can start the car in park but will not shift

into any gear, if we turn the key back? to off and put the shifter into nuetral we can start it and shift it into any gear. why cant i shift it from park? what is wrong!? Thanks

OK:1999 Yukon has a switch on brake peddle,Take to dealer and have them scan the computer,if computer says bad switch change it your self easy to do.

Could be the brake-shift lock. Normally, you should not be able to shift the car out of park unless it is running and you are depressing the brake pedal. There may also be a shift lock release. Check your manual.
