First off, I know that this question has been asked a thousand different times, but I've found that when tinkering with software the tiny details do tend to matter, so I thought I'd just go ahead and give you my situation. Hope you'll forgive the repetitiveness.
I bought an iPhone in the United States and used it on AT&T's network until I moved up to Canada. Upon trying to switch my phone to Rogers, I was informed that I would either have to jailbreak my iPhone or buy an entirely new one, and guess what, I'm not a millionaire. I don't know the specifics of how my iPhone was unlocked the first time, because I paid a Rogers guy to do it for me.
I haven't dealt with updating the software because I haven't had the time to figure out all this stuff, but it's been long enough now that most of the App Store apps have been updated to the point that they require updated versions of the iOS. I'm new to this but I'm pretty good at following directions, so I thought I'd ask you all for a "crash course" in addition to doing some online research of my own.
I've been looking at the Dev-Team Blog and it would seem that knowing the details about past unlocks is important for future ones, so if you could also tell me WHAT about that jailbreak I need to find out and how to go about it, it would be very much appreciated.
Thanks a lot!
I have an iPhone 3G (but not a 3GS).
My baseboard is 04.26.08 (at least if "baseboard" is what is called "modern firmware" in my iPhone's info).
That original jailbreak added both "Cydia" and "Installous" to my iPhone. I was looking through Cydia, but everything under "software" updates there says that "This method DOES upgrade your baseband, which means it WILL negatively affect unlocked phones."
