I have lines appearing on my computer screen

Can someone tell me is there something wrong with my hard drive or ram, graphics card???
but definitely not the monitor as i have checked it on other monitors too and also its not my windows xp sp2 software as i have formatted computer too infact these lines also appear when i press F2 on my systems boot menu.
Or is it because my graphics card has been overheated ??
it has been 2 days for this...
I cant replace the graphics card. I Took my laptop to the workshop and they told me that i have to buy a new motherboard as my graphics card is part of the motherboard.
I also dont believe them because they might have not checked it properly..
Can someone please advice??
